As the Obama administration and Congress draft and debate various national health care reform proposals, taking a look at the pioneering
Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act can provide some initial lessons and guidance. The law, which was passed on April 12, 2006, has served as a model for most of the current national proposals, and some of the people who were responsible for its provisions now work in Washington, D.C. Although the success of the Massachusetts law depends on how one views the definition of "reform," the experience here provides some valuable lessons for the national debate.
