COBRA SUBSIDY UPDATE

Based upon  Senate votes  this week it does not appear likely that the COBRA subsidy eligibility period  will be extended beyond the current date of May 31, 2010.  We will continue to track and provide updates if anything changes.

Update regarding small group rate cap in Massachusetts

BIG NEWS: State appeals board yesterday (June 25, 2010) voted in favor of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care regarding their appeal of the Massachusetts Division of Insurance's cap on small group rates effective April 1, 2010. This may not be the conclusion of the situation, however, as the AG can appeal the ruling in the Suffolk Superior Court.

Early List of OTC Medications Ineligible for FSA Without Prescription Under HCR

The items no longer eligible for reimbursement under the new Health Care Reform law will include item categories such as cough medicines, pain relievers, acid controllers, and allergy & sinus medications, to name a few. A complete list of items being affected by this change has not been made available by the IIAS*, but according to sources at the National Association of Professional Benefit Administrators (NAPBA), a preliminary list of categories that will no longer be eligible for reimbursement include:
